9th and 10th November saw the ionic Studio Two at Abbey Road host the 2019 Hackathon, where 17 teams worked through the night to create technologies, apps and experiences centred around the theme ‘The Power of Immersion’. A team of AudioLab members (Adrià Martinez, Tomasz Rudzki, Dan Johnston and Chris Earnshaw) travelled down to take part, and came away with the prize for “Best Hack of the Year” and the “Spark AR” first prize for their amazing ‘Pocket Venue’ application! Pocket Venue combined three separate technologies including Facebook’s Spark AR to create an interactive AR Music player. The competition was judged by a panel of industry experts including representatives from Abbey Road, Facebook, Universal Music Group and L-Acoustics, and as the prize was sponsored by Facebook each of the team walked away with an Oculus Quest.
