Biography
Peter Cookson has returned to academic research having retired from a diverse career as a director of major capital projects. Peter received a B.A (Hons) degree in engineering science from the University of Oxford in 1973, and a PhD in structural engineering from Cambridge University in 1977. In parallel with his work life he maintained an active interest in music. For the past 20 years he has sung in choirs and directed mens and ladies ensembles. He was Chairman of the British Association of Barbershop Singers from 2017 – 2019. He is interested in developing practical guidance for amateur singing groups derived from an understanding of the acoustics of the ensemble sound. He is currently working toward a PhD degree in Music Technology at the Department of Electronic Engineering at the University of York.
