As part of MSc student David Rivas Mendez’s work on immersive music recording for VR, the AudioLab undertook an intensive recording session at Abbey Road earlier on in the month in collaboration with Abbey Road Red staff Mirek Stiles and Hashim Riaz. The team consisted of David, Calum Armstrong, Jess Stubbs and Dr. Gavin Kearney.

David is developing a recording strategy for six-degrees of freedom music recording for presentation in VR. The idea is to give the end user the freedom to move around musicians in a VR space with the impression that they are present at the original recording session.  The technical setup and recording session took two days with a jazz quartet providing a fantastic soundtrack to the research.
