Engineering the Future: Creating the Amazing – the first free online course from the Department of Electronic Engineering – was launched on 7th October 2019.
The course aimed to introduce learners to some of the exciting and varied aspects of modern engineering and showcased research and teaching in the department. Over the course of 3 weeks, learners investigated engineering for the environment, engineering for healthcare and considered the possibility of future technologies including virtual and augmented reality. Members of the Audiolab contributed to all of these areas, with interactive learning activities such as “Sonify your Heartbeat”, “what should a robot sound like?” and “carry out your own environmental noise measurements”.
The course attracted over 500 joiners from around the world including the UK, India, Nigeria, Pakistan and the USA. Many learners got involved in discussions on-line and posted to our ideas boards – check out What is Noise?
Jude Brereton and Andy Hunt helped to facilitate some of the fantastic discussions which took place around sound and music the environment, the future of sound in VR and lots of other hot topics.
